Virology Laboratory at King's College Hospital

Laboratory overview

Virology services at King’s College Hospital (Denmark Hill) include a specialist sequencing laboratory providing advanced molecular and diagnostic testing. This service supports virology investigations, including viral genotyping, antiviral resistance testing and detailed viral characterisation.

In addition, local serology testing is performed using the Abbott Alinity i platform, which is based within the Blood Sciences laboratories and operated by Blood Sciences staff. These assays support activities such as donor screening and other routine investigations. Results generated locally are authorised by Infection Sciences clinical teams, ensuring appropriate clinical oversight and interpretation.

The service operates in coordination with the wider Infection Sciences network and central Hub to ensure access to comprehensive diagnostics, specialist expertise and standardised workflows where required.

For full accreditation details and access to the  User Handbook, please refer to the Hub page.
